Press Release

Curry County Sheriff’s Office seeks public’s assistance in locating Hit and Run Vehicle.

On January 21, 2015 at approximately 6:00 pm the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report of a vehicle versus bicycle crash on the North Bank of the Chetco River, approximately 2.5 miles east of Brookings. At the scene it was discovered that Timothy Price of Brookings, had been struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle east up the North Bank of the Chetco River. At this time the operator of the vehicle that struck Price is unknown.

According to witness statements the unknown suspect was believed to be driving 2008 or 2009 Ford F250 diesel truck, white in color. The witness only heard the initial crash and immediately shined a light in the area to see what occurred. The witness then found Price and his severely damaged bicycle. The witness then described seeing a vehicle, described above, immediately fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.

Price was immediately transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for injuries he sustained as a result of this incident. At this time there is no further information on Price’s injuries.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with any information regarding this incident. If you were in the area during the incident, know of a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle or have specific information about this incident. We believe the suspect vehicle struck Price’s bicycle head on and it is possible the vehicle described would have some front end damage. You can remain anonymous when reporting if necessary.

Anyone with possible information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at immediately.

Press Release

Arrested Subject: Jerry Wayne James DOB: 1/13/1970

Charges: Possession of Stolen Property and Theft I

On January 16, 2015 at approximately 1100 hours The Curry County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of The Port Orford Police Department, executed a search warrant at 42588 Port Orford Loop. The search warrant was on-going investigation between the Sheriff’s Office and Port Orford Police Department into numerous burglaries and thefts in both City of Port Orford and surrounding area.

During the execution of the search warrant deputies recovered over $5000 in miscellaneous stolen property. This property included various household items, power tools, and antiques. Several victims of recent thefts in the Port Orford area were contacted and able to positively identify some of the property as stolen items they had recently reported. For those victims who were able identify their property, the property was returned to them, and in some cases some of the property was found to be completely damaged or destroyed beyond repair.

This investigation will continue as we attempt to located more victims who could possibly identify and/or claim stolen property. We will be posting photographs of property we believe to be stolen, but not yet identified in specific cases or reported. Please look on our website and/or our Facebook page in the near future for photos of this property. To claim this property we need a case number and date of report to match with the property being claimed. We are also asking for any additional information or leads on other suspects involved in the original thefts and residential burglaries.

Anyone with possible suspect information or information that could assist with furthering this investigation, should contact Det. Dave Gardner at the Curry County Sheriff’s Office

Re: Press Release

On 12-11-13 at about 3:50pm, eighteen year old Erik Harris of Gold Beach Oregon was stopped by Curry County Sheriff’s Deputies near Motel 6 on Jerry’s Flat Road, Gold Beach, Or., while operating an unlicensed non street legal motorcycle on U.S. Highway 101 across the Rogue River Bridge. Harris was taken into custody at the request of his probation officer for an unrelated probation violation. A consent search was conducted on Harris’ backpack and three small homemade pipe bombs (improvised explosive devices) were located inside. The Oregon State Police were contacted and a bomb technician from Medford responded. Once on scene and after an initial examination of the three items, the Oregon State Police seized the tree items and took them back to Medford to render them safe.

Harris was lodged in the Curry County Jail for Probation Violation and three counts of Possession of a Destructive Device. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police will continue the investigation and all information will be provided to the Curry County District Attorney.
