Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

Individuals who have been charged and found guilty of a sex crime are classified as sex offenders. A sex crime is a sexually motivated criminal offense such as rape, sexual assault, and child molestation. Sex offenders are mandated by the law to report to the Sheriff’s Office of the county they live in once they are released from prison. Their information is then added into the sex offender registry of the state and the national database maintained by the federal government. These systems are made available to the public to increase safety and awareness.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office maintains a sex offender registry here. If you wish to locate sex offenders in your area, it is important that you first read and acknowledge the terms stated on the website. As some sex offenders fail to comply with the law, you may get information that is no longer valid such as an offender’s last known address. In some cases, you may only get an offender’s incomplete address.

Bail and Bondsman

If you are arrested for a crime in Summit County, the court may grant you bail depending on the gravity of the charges filed against you. Bail is the temporary release of a defendant while waiting for his trial to start with the condition that he puts down money as collateral to ensure that he shows up at his trial. If he does not, the money is forfeited to the court.

A bondsman is hired if a defendant is unable to come up with the money for posting bail. A bondsman is an individual who can act as a surety, guaranteeing to the court that he will pay the entire bail amount if the defendant misses a court appearance. To hire a bondsman, you must pay him 10% of the bail amount as his fee. You may also be required to put down collateral worth the remaining bail amount if the bondsman believes you to be a flight risk.
