Bail and Bondsman
The court requires an accused person to pledge money or property in return for his or her temporary release from jail while he or she awaits the trial. This pledge is called bail. If the accused fails to show up at any of his or her scheduled court appearances, the pledged amount will be forfeited.
A bondsman is secured by the accused if he or she is unable to post bail due to financial difficulties. The service will require the payment of a non-refundable fee, normally 10% of the bail amount. In return, the bondsman will guarantee to the court that he or she will pay the bail amount if the accused does not appear before the court during his or her trial.
