The second quarter of 2016 the Sheriff’s Office issued 339 citations. 253 of these were traffic related and 86 were criminal in nature. The three most frequent traffic offenses that were written were: Speeding, Driving While Suspended, Driving Under the Influence. The three most frequent criminal offenses were: Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Alcohol/Intoxicant. We received 1361 individual calls for service in this three month period with Animal complaints, Citizen Assists, and Traffic Violations called in the most. Since the beginning of the calendar year we have served 404 civil papers. There are currently 32 registered sexual offenders and 22 registered violent offenders within Dawson County. There are approximately 1300 active Concealed Weapons Permits issued by my office. The biggest reason for denial is failure to disclose all required information and/or not meeting state statutory requirements.

The Dawson County Jail has 28 physical beds including male and female, and temporary holding cells. The average daily population (ADP) for this period was 25.1 with 22.13 being male and 2.97 being female. We booked 234 people in during this three month period. The top three crimes people were booked in for were: Mittimus (court ordered time), Driving While Suspended, Driving Under the Influence. We also held approximately 143 state male inmates each month during this period which is approximately 6% of the State of Montana inmate holding capacity.
