Itasca County is located in the north-eastern part of Minnesota with its county seat in Grand Rapids. Itasca County was first formed in 1849, upon the creation of the Minnesota Territory. Inmate Search in Itasca County Jail

The Itasca County Jail does not maintain an online list of incarcerated inmates. To inquire, it’s best to personally visit the Jail at 440 NE 1st Avenue, Grand Rapids, MN 55744., Lucas Thompson is the Itasca County’s Jail Administrator.

The Itasca County Jail is licensed as a Class III Jail by the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a secure detention facility, used to confine both sentenced and pre-sentenced prisoners. The Itasca County Jail is divided into two facilities – the annex which was built in 1997 and houses 48 inmates; and the main jail which was built in 1982 and houses 59 inmates. Currently the Itasca County Jail is running at full capacity.

Important Jail Policies and Procedures

Rules for visiting an inmate of the Itasca County jail include:

Visitors must be at least 18 years old with a picture ID containing date of birth.

Visitors less than 18 years of age must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

No personal property, food, beverages, chewing gum, tobacco products or cell phones allowed in the visiting area.

No one under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances will be allowed to visit.

Damages to the visiting area or equipment may result in criminal charges and loss of visiting privileges.

Assistance for handicapped visitors will be provided. Informing the jail of special needs when the visit is scheduled will expedite the process.

All visitors are subject to being searched.

Inmates will be allowed one visiting segment a day.

The Itasca County Jail uses Reliance Phone Company for all inmate calling needs. Inmate family members can call to set up an account. All calls out of the jail are collect or prepaid; and no incoming calls are allowed. Family members can call to leave inmates a voice mail message. Family members can also go to the Reliance Telephone Company website to purchase phone cards for inmates.

Posting Bond in Minnesota Court

Before any subject is released on bond, the bond must be approved by a judge after submission to the prosecuting lawyer for approval and execution. It may be filed with the court administrator during regular business hours and also with the custodian of the jail. In cases where bail has been set by the court and the defendant has provided a bail bond with corporate surety, approval by a judge is unnecessary if the bond conforms to Form 702 as published by the state court overseer.

Forfeiture of Bonds in Minnesota Court

Whenever a bail bond is forfeited by a judge, the surety and bondsman shall be informed by the court overseer in writing, and be directed to make payment in accordance with the terms of the bond within ninety (90) days from the date of the order of forfeiture. A signed copy of the order of forfeiture shall be forwarded with the notice.
